The NYC Department of Education announced the Middle School process for admissions entering the 2025–2026 school year. Here is an overview of what families need to know.

Application Timeline

Application Opens Date TBD

The middle school application opens on a date to be announced. Families should contact their elementary school staff to complete and submit their application.

Application Deadline Date TBD

The deadline for families to submit their middle school application will be announced. Please submit on time to ensure your child is considered.

Offers Released — Spring

Middle school offers will be made available to families and school staff in the spring. Families will be notified through the DOE's official process.

Admissions Method

  • DOE public middle schools used an open admissions method last year. Programs will pause on screening or using applicants' academic records, auditions, or other assessments to evaluate or admit students.
  • If a school has more applicants than available seats, offers will be made using priority groups (when applicable) and random selection (a lottery).
  • Mott Hall II will continue to update families as more information becomes available from the NYC DOE.
