Assessment Philosophy

How We Assess Scholar Learning

At Mott Hall II, grading reflects a scholar's mastery of content, skills, and daily engagement across three categories: formative assessments, summative assessments, and participation. Our grading structure is designed to reward growth, provide meaningful feedback, and prepare scholars for the rigors of high school and beyond.

Grading Policies

Late Work Policy

Scholars are expected to submit all work on time. When an assignment is missing, the teacher posts it on JupiterEd and scholars have 5 business days from the posting date to submit. Scholars are held accountable for completing all posted missing work within that window.

  • Teacher posts missing work on JupiterEd
  • Scholar has 5 business days from posting date to submit
  • Monitor JupiterEd regularly to track missing assignments
  • Contact the teacher directly with any questions

Attendance & Grading

Regular attendance is essential to academic success. Unexcused absences may affect participation grades. Scholars with excused absences will have a reasonable window to make up missed work.

  • Excused absences: full credit opportunity
  • Unexcused absences: teacher discretion
  • First bell at 8:20 AM — punctuality matters
  • Chronic absence may trigger an academic review

Academic Integrity

Mott Hall II scholars are expected to submit original work. Plagiarism, cheating, or academic dishonesty of any kind is a serious violation of our Code for Living.

  • First offense: zero on assignment, parent contact
  • Repeat offense: disciplinary action
  • AI tools must be cited if permitted by teacher
  • Collaboration guidelines are set by each teacher

Marking Periods & Report Cards

Mott Hall II issues report cards at the end of each marking period. Scholars and families are encouraged to monitor grades continuously using JupiterEd.

  • Four marking periods per academic year
  • Report cards distributed each marking period
  • Interim progress reports issued mid-period
  • Parent-teacher conferences held twice annually

Monitor Your Scholar's Progress
Every Week

Families are our most important partners. Checking JupiterEd weekly takes less than five minutes and makes a significant difference in scholar outcomes.

1
Visit login.jupitered.com and log in with your family account. Contact the main office at 212-678-2960 if you need login help.
2
Review your scholar's grades across all subjects — check both formative and summative columns for a complete picture.
3
Look for missing assignments and discuss with your scholar. A missing "0" can significantly lower their overall grade.
4
If you have concerns, reach out to the teacher directly via the contact information in JupiterEd — early communication makes all the difference.
